You can spread germs by sharing saliva with others. There are some diseases that can be transmitted through saliva. Saliva has enzymes that prevent the risk of contagions bu it is best to avoid sharing saliva with others.
Here are a few examples of some of the viruses that can be transmitted through saliva:

  • Cold
  • Flu
  • Mononucleosis (the kissing disease), caused by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)
  • Type I Herpes
  • Strep Throat
  • Hepatitis B & C
  • Cytomegalovirus (which affects unborn babies)
  • Ebola
  • Bird Flu
  • Gum Disease
  • Hand, foot, and mouth disease, caused by Coxsackie virus

A few ways that you can transmit infection are: Kissing, Sharing silverware, Sharing drinks, Sharing toothbrushes, Sharing toothpaste, Sharing Mouth Guards, and so on.
